You are here: Her Tree Story > Woodard Family
Cleopatra Clema Woodard was the daughter of Amanda Elizabeth "Lizzie" Houston and William Tully Woodard. The most recent census in which she appears as a Woodard (as opposed to as a Davidson with her husband) is in the US Federal census for 1910, Giles County, Tennessee. In 1910, Cleo is listed as C. C. Woodard, along with Wm. F and Tullie Lee, with Amanda listed as a widow and the head of the household. Their neighbors are her parents, Frederick Newton Houston and Sarah Elizabeth Abernathy on one side and the Harwells on the other.
According to this 1910 census, Amanda had and raised 3 children and her husband had already left her a widow.
Lizzie and William Tully Woodard appear together in the 1900 census for Lincloln County, Tennessee. Their neighbors are the Harwells and the Hudsons. This is the earliest census for Lizzie and Tully, since the 1890 one is lost.
The next generation of Woodards, Tully's parents William T. Woodard and Wynona Satoka Peebles, are found in the 1880 census in Lincoln County, Tennessee, along with their children "Larena" (Lavina), Roy, Athena, and Tully (misspelled as Tally), aged 10 months. What's interesting here is that there is a marriage record for William T. Woodard to Toke Peeples in Lincoln County, Tennessee for 14 Febuary 1878. There is obviously something to be learned there with the dates. I haven't yet identified William's first wife.
The 1880 US Census is the only one in which Toka and William appear together. William is in the home of Abner Woodard and Abner's second wife, Elizabeth, in 1870. In this census we find Abner age 49, Elizabeth age 35, Mary A. age 17, A. J. age 14, Rufus age 11, Ida E. age 9, S. R. age 5. I haven't worked on this family enough so I'm uncertain about some details, such as whether or not Rufus is the son of ELizabeth or Caroline. Stepping back another decade to the 1860 US Census for Lincoln County, Tennessee, Abner is 32, Elizabeth 26, Nancy is 10, William is 8, Hnery is 7, Mary is 6, Jane is 4 and Rufus is 1.
In the 1850 census, Caroline is listed along with Abner and their daughter, Nancy, age 1.
This is a very bare, rough sketch of my Woodard family. In time, I'll flesh this out, but at least now the page isn't "coming soon!"
